'' Milwaukee Career College prepares individuals to assume responsibilities in the pharmacy sector of the health care industry. Pharmacy technician’s assist and support licensed pharmacists in providing health care and medications to patients. Pharmacy technicians must have a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice, and be skilled in the techniques required to order, stock, package, and prepare medications. The coursework includes classroom and laboratory work in: medical and pharmaceutical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacy record-keeping, pharmaceutical techniques, and pharmacy law and ethics. Our formal training program includes a six-week externship program designed to benefit the student by providing hands-on experience in a retail or hospital setting.
Objective
The Pharmacy Technician program is designed to enable students to take positions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist in a variety of work settings. Pharmacy technicians work in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, home health care pharmacies, clinic pharmacies and in mail order prescription pharmacies. In addition, there are positions in non-traditional settings such as medical insurance companies, drug manufacturing pharmacies and drug wholesale pharmacies. The student will be prepared to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination.
