'' Medical Office Assistants are an important part of the health care team with expanding job responsibilities. As a medical office assistant, you are often responsible for greeting patients, scheduling appointments, filing records, and purchasing supplies and equipment. Other duties may include patient admissions, assisting with examinations, accounting and insurance billing. You will use computers to enter and access important patient information on a daily basis.

The triOS Medical Office Assistant Diploma Program is an intensive 8-month program designed to prepare students for a career in Health Care. Topics of this program include: Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word Intermediate, Microsoft Excel Intermediate, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Business Communications); Business/Accounting Applications (Bookkeeping Fundamentals, Simply Accounting, Accounting Fundamentals, QuickBooks); Anatomy, Physiology and Terminology; CPR/First Aid; Medical Administration; Medical Office Assisting Clinical; Job Shadowing and Career Management.

Graduates of this program often work in a variety of jobs including Medical Office Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Dental Office Administrator, Patient Representative, and Administrative Assistant.

The health care field is growing rapidly and this growth will mean new job opportunities for administrative support in physicians�offices, group practices, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. Students are eligible to apply to the Ontario Medical Secretaries Association - Health Care Associates (OMSA - HCA) for student membership. Upon completion of OMSA - HCA ‘s Academic and Employment requirements (one year employment in a medical health office), students become eligible to write the “Certified Medical Secretary�examination offered by the OMSA - HCA. Graduates who pass the certification exam may append the initials
CMS (Certified Medical Secretary) to their name.
