Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' This human service career focuses on effective services for young children and their families. Humbers program prepares students with the necessary knowledge and skills to work effectively with children (birth to 12 years), their families, and other professionals in a variety of settings. Faculty members are highly-qualified professionals with extensive experience and are committed to student success. Theoretical and practical components of the program are integrated throughout each semester. Students have the benefit of acquiring the essential theory in the classroom and applying this new knowledge in an approved setting. There is a major commitment to hands-on experience, including four field placements in different settings. This program also uses two on-site inclusive childcare facilities for children birth to six-years old. A dedicated resource centre full of educational materials, books and equipment is available for in-class assignments and field placement experiences.
*There are three program entry points per year. We have a "fast-track" option that is 16 months continuously and starts in January (winter semester) only. There is a May (summer semester) intake and a September (fall semester) intake. The "fast-track" option and the summer semester are intensive and require students to have strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills and be self-directed.
Work Placement
The program arranges 700 hours of unpaid field practice hours spread out over four semesters. In the first two semesters, students may be in licensed child care/preschool settings with a variety of age groups. In the third and fourth semesters, placements could be in hospitals, resource centres, junior/senior kindergarten programs or home-based/community-based child care programs.
