Course Description:
'' Finely honed math skills are essential in this profession. Humber’s program trains technicians to assist registered pharmacists in community and hospital pharmacies in Ontario. Students learn skills in: relevant legislation, physiology, pharmacotherapeutics, customer care, health-care ethics, inventory management, hospital practice, and infection control. They will also dispense medications in fully equipped dispensing labs. Students are taught how to compound pharmaceuticals, develop aseptic techniques, and gain experience on hospital and retail computer software systems. The program also includes guest speakers from the field, tours of pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesale distributors, hospitals, as well as opportunities to attend conferences. Following course work, students enjoy eight weeks of first-hand work experience under the direct supervision of a pharmacist/technician - four weeks in a retail/community pharmacy and four weeks in a hospital pharmacy setting. Emphasis throughout the program is on the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
