Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Its never too late to follow a dream to become a skilled chef. A passion for food, to cook and to be creative - career as a chef blends them all. Students learn the basic theoretical and practical culinary skills required by the industry: a la carte cuisine, pastry, desserts and baking, ethnic cuisine, contemporary cooking and more. This is achieved through a combination of classroom learning, and hands-on work in Humbers culinary labs.
Humber has some of the most modern facilities in North America. Lab facilities include a dedicated baking and pastry lab and five dedicated kitchen labs, including the award-winning Compass Group Canada Culinary Demonstration Theatre and Kitchen Lab. This innovative, multi-purpose classroom/lab opened in January 2005. A most exciting feature is the Vent Master ceiling - slick and modern, with the fans and ducts hidden behind a stainless steel ceiling where grease and bacteria cant build up. The lab also features: gas-fired stoves, sensor responsive soap, water, and paper towels for hand washing, a 49-seat theatre-style seating area, a cooking demonstration area, induction cook-top, and four large television screens.
A fast-track program is implemented for the January start. The first semester (January - April) is immediately followed by the second semester (May - July).
