'' Understanding why people do the things they do is a goal that has been at the core of the science of psychology for at least the last 125 years. As access to intellectual resources increases for the general public, there is an increasing demand for knowledge-based individuals who understand the foundations of human thought and behaviour.

In the Psychology program, you will examine theories and research based on the biological and social approaches to human behaviour and cognition. Applications to law, business, education, and the health sciences will be considered.

The primary goal of this new program is to prepare you to enter the workforce with the depth of understanding and experience employers are looking for in a wide variety of service, administrative, and industrial fields. In addition, you will be able to select electives related to your own professional and academic preferences from a broad range of offered courses available at the University of Guelph-Humber.

Upon completion of the Psychology program, you will receive a university honours degree which will prepare you for your professional career and advanced study at the postgraduate level in a variety of academic disciplines, including Faculties of Education (Teachers�College).

WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE

In the Psychology program you will complete an applied psychology project that allows you to take the knowledge you have acquired in the program and apply it to a particular area of interest. Students may choose to work in business and explore organizational behaviour; in a counselling setting and examine behaviour and social psychology; or explore criminal psychology in various settings in the justice system. The possibilities are endless and allow you to tailor your education to create an area of interest for graduate work or future employment.
