'' English for IT prepares English language students for the everyday use of computers for work, study and leisure.
Recommended for: Students wanting to develop their English skills and learn strategies for postsecondary study in the IT field Those employed or seeking high-level jobs involving IT, either in their own home country or abroad Anyone wanting to improve their general English proficiency Suggested hours of learning: 200 hours
Level: Intermediate to Advanced (There are four levels available in the English for IT program)
Level 1 �10 hours Aimed at students with very basic or no computer knowledge and limited English Language skills.
Be technically competent in using the computer tool bars, keyboard, navigation bar and interactive exercises Develop strategies for learning and retaining vocabulary Develop receptive (listening and reading) skills Develop productive (speaking and writing) skills and confidence Develop self-directed learning skills; able to make the most of the online activities Engage effectively in Level 2 content and language activities. Level 2 �40 hours Aimed at students with basic computer knowledge and limited English language skills.
Read texts and listen to discussions on IT topics Speak and write with the skills and confidence necessary to undertake Level 3 of this program Exploit the online activities and opportunities for self-directed learning offered by Level 3 Engage efficiently in Level 3 content and language activities. Level 3 �50 hours Aimed at students with a reasonable level of computer skills and with intermediate English language skills.
Be technically proficient in terms of understanding the navigation bar and completing online materials Have a range of general and specialist vocabulary Read relatively advanced texts and listen to quite complex discussions on IT topics Speak and write with the skills and confidence to undertake Level 4 Engage effectively in the content and language activities of Level 4. Level 4 �50 hours The goal of this level is to develop the proficiency and confidence necessary for students to engage effectively in the IT field. It is aimed at students with a good level of computer skills and quite advanced English language skills. �Have the English Language proficiency and confidence necessary to engage effectively in the IT field �either in postsecondary education or the workforce
