Course Description:
'' In the 120CP International Master of Business Administration (5458) program, students will be required to complete a set of core courses (80CP) designed to advance understanding and critical use of threshold concepts central to effective business administration in an international context. Students may complete a 40CP specialisation designed to advance their individual knowledge and competencies in areas of management relevant to their personal goals. Each specialisation provides additional insight that enables managers to interact in a cross-disciplinary role while building internal and external relationships and influencing resource allocation within the organisation.
Specialisations include:
Finance General Management Human Resource Management Information Systems International Business Logistics and Supply Chain Management (from 2008) Marketing Management Students entering the IMBA Honours stream will complete a set of core courses including a Research Methods course (80CP) and a 40CP Research Thesis. Honours studies will increase the competency of managers to utilise and evaluate the appropriateness of research results and to develop a greater understanding of the implication and application of published academic research. Upon completion of Honours, the graduate will be able to conduct and publish research in peer reviewed conference proceedings and journals. Honours studies also provide a pathway for IMBA students to apply for entry into a research higher degree.
The 160CP International Master of Business Administration (5457) program provides a pathway for those students who do not meet the work experience entry requirements of the 120CP IMBA (5458) program [i.e. a minimum of two years full-time (or equivalent) relevant work experience] and requires the completion of a work integrated learning component. Those students who are admitted to the 5457 program are required to complete 120CP plus an additional 40CP of work integrated learning in a managed environment.
The International Exchange component (40 credit points) provides an opportunity for eligible students to obtain experience at one of Griffith Universitys international partner universities.
Attendance The International Master of Business Administration is offered full-time and part-time on campus at the Gold Coast campus. Students are required to attend courses on the Gold Coast campus only except where an elective/specialisation course is not offered on that campus. Students may then attend the campus where that course is offered.
As a full-time student, you will generally attend 9-12 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester.
As a part-time student, you will generally attend 3-6 hours of scheduled classes per week.
Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week. Sufficient classes will be scheduled from 5 p.m. to accommodate part-time students unavailable to attend classes during the day.
You will be classed as a part-time student if you are enrolled in less than 30 credit points per semester. International students must maintain a full-time study load.
International students must make themselves available to attend all Orientation Sessions commencing from day 1 of Orientation week. International students who cannot arrive in the country to begin studies by teaching week 1, must gain permission from the MBA Director to commence the program in that particular semester.
Career opportunities The IMBA program increases the competency of managers to evaluate the appropriateness of advice provided externally and internally and to utilise that information to make decisions (in an international context) consistent with achieving sustainable outcomes for multiple stakeholders.
The development of these cross-disciplinary skills will lead to a range of employment opportunities in public or private organisations with the specific opportunity depending upon the graduates previous experience and area of specialisation within the IMBA. ...''
