Course Description:

'' As a twelve-course Master of Business Administration program, students will be required to complete a set of eight core courses designed to introduce students to threshold concepts central to effective business administration. Students are required to complete four specialisation courses designed to advance their individual knowledge and competencies in areas of management relevant to their personal goals.

Specialisations include:

Finance
Financial Planning
General Management
Human Resource Management
Information Systems
International Business
Logistics and Supply Chain Management (from 2008)
Marketing Management
Public Sector Management
Each specialisation provides additional insight that enables managers to interact in a cross-disciplinary role while building internal and external relationships and influencing resource allocation within the organisation.

The Graduate Certificate in Business Administration may be awarded after the successful completion of any four core courses (40 credit points) or equivalent.

Students entering the Honours stream will complete one Research Methods course and a Research Thesis (40 credit points) instead of a specialisation. These studies increase the competency of managers to utilise and evaluate the appropriateness of research results and to develop a greater understanding of the implications and application of research and also provide a pathway to research higher degree programs.

The International Exchange component (40 credit points) provides an opportunity for eligible MBA students to obtain experience at one of Griffith University’s international partner universities.

Attendance
The Master of Business Administration is offered full-time and part-time on campus at the Gold Coast campus. You may choose to study courses at other campuses if or where the program structure allows.

As a full-time student, you will generally attend 10-15 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the semester.

As a part-time student, you will generally attend 3-6 hours of scheduled classes per week.

Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week. Sufficient classes will be scheduled from 5 p.m. to accommodate part-time students unavailable to attend classes during the day.

You will be classed as a part-time student if you are enrolled in less than 30 credit points per semester. International students must maintain a full-time study load.

International students must make themselves available to attend all Orientation Sessions commencing from day 1 of Orientation week. International students who cannot arrive in the country to begin studies by teaching week 1, must gain permission from the MBA Director to commence the program in that particular semester.

Career opportunities
These programs increase the competency of managers to evaluate the appropriateness of advice provided externally and internally and to utilise that information to make decisions consistent with achieving sustainable outcomes for multiple stakeholders.

The development of these cross-disciplinary skills will lead to a range of employment opportunities in public or private sector organisations with the specific opportunity depending upon the graduate’s previous experience and area of specialisation within the MBA.

Graduate outcomes for each specialisation are outlined below:

Finance: This specialisation increases the competency of managers to meet the needs of the finance industry by supplementing the broad MBA core courses with specialised courses of relevance to the finance sector. Success in the finance industry requires an understanding of how to analyse specific investment opportunities and manage a portfolio of investments for high return or capital growth and these courses are included within this specialisation.
Financial Planning: This specialisation increases the competency of managers to utilise and evaluate the expert advice offered to them by financial and investment planners and advisers. It provides additional insight that enables them to interact in a cross-disciplinary role, while building internal and external relationships and influencing resource allocation within the organisation.

Students pursuing this specialisation will normally choose courses which cut across specialist postgraduate degrees and specialisations offered at Griffith University, subject to approval by the MBA Director. Students may select four courses comprised of any approved combination of postgraduate courses for which they have satisfied any prerequisites.
Human Resource Management: This specialisation increases the competency of managers to evaluate and utilise contemporary human resource/employment relations knowledge and professional skills to enable them to specialise in human resources or work closely with human resource specialists in a broader role in the organisation. The specialisation is designed to be international in application.
Information Systems: This specialisation will advance industry professionals’ knowledge and skills in key areas of knowledge management, risk management, IT strategy, governance and service management, project and change management and enterprise systems integration. These core competencies will ensure their competitiveness in the modern global business environment. Completion of this program will ensure a broad management focused perspective on current and emerging information and communication technologies, and advanced knowledge and skills relevant to graduates’ effective deployment.
International Business: This specialisation increases the competency of managers to utilise and evaluate the appropriateness of advice of experts in international business. It develops competencies in managers to operate effectively in cross-cultural and trans-national environments to build internal and external relationships and influence resource allocation within the organisation.
Logistics and Supply Chain Management: This specialisation will increase the competency of managers in areas critical to the effectiveness of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. It develops competencies to manage relationships and information flows effectively and efficiently in order to meet customers’ needs and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Graduates will be well equipped to apply their knowledge and skills confidently in the workplace.

It provides additional insight that enables them to interact in a cross-disciplinary role, while building internal and external relationships and influencing resource allocation within the organisation.
