'' The masters programs promote the study of public sector administrative and managerial processes, problems and disciplines at an advanced level. The flexibility enables students to develop advanced professional competence in their own fields of interest and to relate this to the broader strategic managerial processes and the contexts in which they take place.

Students in the masters programs will be introduced to the research process appropriate to the chosen areas of study and will be given training and experience in planning, organising and carrying out research directed towards a defined goal. Graduates will be conversant with public sector disciplines, have demonstrated research capacity and high-level analytic and policy skills.

Some courses in the masters programs are offered through Open Universities Australia which is an affiliate of Griffith University. The fees and charges for courses offered at Open Universities Australia differ from that of courses offered at Griffith University. The deadline for enrolment in Open Universities Australia courses also varies from Griffith University enrolment timelines.

Attendance
The Master of Public Administration is offered in external mode which means that there is no requirement for on-campus attendance.

You will be provided course materials via a variety of means, including printed materials and via Learning at Griffith. You are required to use the internet or other electronic media during your enrolment in this program and access to a reliable computer with internet connection is required.

Students normally undertake the program on a part-time basis, enrolling in two courses per semester (20 credit points).

For each course there are two afternoon workshops, lasting approximately 2.5 hours, which offer the opportunity to discuss the material of the course and preparation of assignments. Attendance is voluntary.

Career opportunities
The government accounts for roughly forty per cent of the economy and MPA graduates reflect this significance. They can be found in a wide variety of occupations including political and policy advisers; civil servants and public managers throughout federal, state and local government; as well as policy specialists in a variety of NGOs, industry organisations and lobby groups both nationally and internationally; as consultants to the private sector; and in high profile positions in large private sector firms who conduct large amounts of valuable business with the public sector.
