'' The creative writing programs aim to develop a writers skill by providing:
opportunities to work with qualified staff, mentors and fellow writers over an extended period in order to develop writing skills; opportunities to explore individual approaches to writing and creativity in a supportive, structured environment; practical experience through the sharing of writing exercises in workshops, as well as skills in research, revision, development of material and critical understanding; an opportunity to contribute to professionally published anthologies of writing and to experience the benefits of commercial publication. Writers will gain first-hand knowledge of the processes involved in editing and publication, as well as distribution, promotion and dissemination; development of an understanding of the changing possibilities for creative writing in Australia and internationally, from an authors point of view; encouragement of artistic confidence and independence. Career Qualifications Study in Creative Writing will assist students to:
advance in the practice and profession of creative writing (in various genres) gain workable knowledge in professional aspects of a writers career: editing, applying for grants, working to achieve publication, etc. Admission Requirements As well as the standard entry requirements listed in the Program table, applicants must present an excellent portfolio of creative writing. Students with an Honours degree in English or Creative Writing (or equivalent) may be admitted directly into the second year of the Masters program (dependent on excellent Honours results or portfolio). Writers with an established publication record may, in some cases, be admitted directly into the second year of the Masters.
Portfolio A portfolio of creative writing is an important component of the admission selection process. Details of requirements for the portfolio, including submissions, can be obtained from the English Discipline.
