'' The Investment Management Certificate (IMC) is administered by the United Kingdom Society of Investment Professionals (UKSIP). Its objective is "to test the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the regulations and practices of financial markets, categories of securities and principles of investment management."

The IMC is a benchmark competency exam for people working in investment management.

FAQ’s
1) Who should sit the IMC?
Individuals who are, or will be, involved in:

managing investments on behalf of clients
giving advice on investments
selling investments to, or on behalf of, clients

Individuals from abroad who wish to practice in the UK must sit the Regulations Paper.

2) Do I need any prior qualifications?
No prior qualifications are required.

3) Which paper should I sit?
There are three versions of the examination as follows:

FSA Full
A three-hour exam consisting of 140 questions covering all eight modules of the syllabus.

UK Regulation & Markets
A one-hour exam consisting of 51 questions, designed for those who have overseas or other qualifications and experience approved by The FSA. Areas of the FSA Full IMC syllabus that will be examined are: Regulatory Environment, Markets and Taxation.

Investment Practice
A two-hour exam consisting of 104 questions examining Financial Instruments, Portfolio Management, Accounting, Economics and Statistics, of the FSA Full IMC Syllabus.

4) Do I need to attend the optional introductory 2-day course?
We recommend that individuals new to the industry or with little or no knowledge of financial services attend the introductory day. By providing an overview of the Regulatory Environment and introducing the basic mathematical concepts, the course instils confidence when preparing for the pre-exam course.

5) Pre-exam course or distance learning?
The pre-exam course is designed to focus your attention on what it takes to pass the exam.Your tutor will guide you through each topic in the syllabus and explain its exam significance. For many individuals, a classroom course is the most time-efficient way of absorbing all the material you need to learn for the IMC.

However, different people learn in different ways. Our distance learning programme will provide you with everything you need to know to pass the IMC and will suit you if you prefer to study at your own pace. By choosing the distance learning option, you will still have the full support of the 7city tutor team, both online and offline, but please note, this approach does require you to be even more disciplined when planning your study time.
