'' The management accountant often has an understated role in an organisation. No longer restrained to the back office, the management accountant plays a fundamental role in supporting senior management and contributing towards business strategy.
This course explores the changing role of the management accountant and the concept of the strategic management accountant as well as the environmental forces which have caused this change.
The main part of the course looks at the management accountant’s role in terms of cost management, value management and performance management. Some established techniques such as activity-based management will be covered alongside some more modern techniques such as lifecycle accounting. Case studies will be used to illustrate these techniques.
The remainder of the course looks at the strategic and management aspects of the accountant’s role. We will discuss the challenge of managing others - in particular non-financial staff.
