Course Description:

'' These programmes are designed to prepare students for English language exams, progression onto academic courses or to simply improve all aspects of the student’s English language ability.

The main areas studied are reading, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and communication skills. As with all our courses, the content changes to suit the needs of the student and the group whilst following a carefully designed syllabus. For General English, the focus is on all-round language competence and this is developed further in Pre-Foundation classes together with more formal academic skills.

Duration
Full time. 20 lessons per week. 1 to 34 weeks duration.

Assessment & Support
Progress is checked by continuous assessment of course work, homework and regular class tests. Students can also choose to take externally assessed examinations such as the Cambridge ESOL KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE or IELTS. Tutors will advise students as to the most suitable exam for them.

All students will have regular tutorials where they can talk to their tutors in private about any personal or learning issues. It is also a good opportunity for tutors to advise students on their progress and to give them help on how to improve their weaker skills.

Progression
Students who achieve EAP grade E (IELTS 5.0) and have successfully completed their high school qualifications can be given an unconditional offer for an NCUK foundation programme. Students who do not require a foundation year can apply for one of our HND programmes if they achieve EAP grade D (IELTS 5.5).
