'' If you are under 19 years of age you should have at least 4 GCSE passes (including English Language) at grade C or above or a level 2 Care/Childcare qualification at Merit level and GCSE English Language at Grade C or above. An Adult Literacy qualification at Level 2 may be considered as an alternative to a GCSE in English Language. Students aged 19 an over are welcome to apply, especially if they have experience in child care, a place on the course will be subject to an assessment score at Level 2. Course Details This course was previously known as the CACHE Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB) and qualifies students to work with young children from 0 to 8 years of age. It provides a detailed study of child development and students acquire a wide range of appropriate skills and understanding. The 12 units include; Foundation to Caring, Play and Early Learning, Health and Community Care, Work with Babies, Work with Young Children, The Developing Child, Observation and Assessment, Anti-Discriminatory Practice, Protection of Children and Working with Parents. Unit 12 covers practical training and you will spend half of your time on placements gaining experience with a range of age groups in different child care establishments. You will undergo a police check (CRB) before commencing placement. Day Tue - Fri (one week placement and one week in college) Time 9pm - 4.30pm Duration 2 years Assessment The 12 units are assessed by assignments and the production of portfolios of evidence. You will also be assessed on your placements and at the end of the course you will take a written test. Progression Employment as a nursery nurse in places such as infant schools, special schools, private or state nurseries or as nannies or childminders.
