Course Description:

'' Although no formal qualifications are needed it is expected that you have an interest in health and fitness, take part in practical fitness/coaching sessions and be able to communicate your ideas effectively. You should be able to work at Level 1 in Literacy and Entry Level 3 in Numeracy.

Course Details
The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to work in the fitness industry. You will also have to study the following areas of anatomy and physiology: bones and joints, muscles and muscle actions, cardio-respiratory system and components of fitness. There are five units which include:
- Planning a session
- Health and safety
- Promoting the activity
- Coaching a session
- Customer care

Assessment
NVQs are unit based allowing candidates to gain credit for one unit at a time, working at their own pace and building up to a full award. Evidence of achievement is collected by observation in the workplace and multi-choice tests.

City & Guilds NVQ 2 Exercise and Fitness - Gymnasium.

Progression
You can gain employment in private health clubs, leisure centres, as a personal trainer, or progress to a higher level programme in NVQs or Advanced Vocational Certificate (AVCE).
