Course Description:

'' The course is designed to:
- Provide a broad education in design in general and Graphic Design in particular
- Develop your understanding of theory, practice and their relationship
- Develop your intellectual and imaginative powers and your capacity to understand, communicate and make critical judgements
- Develop high standards of problem solving skills, creativity and technical ability related to one or more of the course specialisms
- Provide the opportunity and support you will need to create some elements of your own programme of study, manage your learning time and synthesise the knowledge you have acquired After our initial introductory phase, work is organised into assignments or ’briefs’. Briefs are structured to prepare you to meet the demands of higher education and work in the creative industries. Units include:
- Drawing development
- Type and letterforms
- Visual communication
- Computers in art and design
- Historical and ontextual understanding
- Ideas and Concepts
- Image manipulation
- Design for advertising

Assessment
Continuous assessment, completion of course units and presentation of work in a portfolio plus Diploma Exhibition at the end of second year.

Qualification
EDEXCEL National Diploma Design (Graphic Design (NQF L3) Opportunity to achieve NCFE Art and Design Level 2.

Progression
Progress onto junior positions in design related industry or to BA Degree or Higher National Diploma in design course or Foundation Degree in New Media Design.
