'' Applicants should have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, (including Music and English or equivalent), or internal progression from our 1st Diploma. Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in popular music styles and must play a musical instrument or sing to a certain standard (assessed at audition). You may be required to attend a two week Summer School. Course Details This course gives a grounding in the knowledge and skills needed for a career in the music industry. It includes some individual/small group instrumental tuition. Performance opportunities will include City Centre venues and there will be opportunities to contribute to the colleges Raw Fish record label. The course is modular, comprising practical and academic study and contains many elements which are performance and/or production based. Units include: Performance Process, Performance Techniques, Composing, Arranging, Keyboard Skills, MIDI sequencing, Aural Skills, Listening Skills, Music Theory and Harmony, Music in Context, History of Pop, Performance Project, Improvisation (or Singing option), Music Industry, Sound Recording Techniques and Special Subject Investigation. Students study the Key Skills of Communication, Application of Number and IT as part of their programme and you also have the opportunity to study additional A Levels, AS Level or GCSEs. Day Mon - Fri Time 9am - 4.30pm Duration 2 years Assessment Assessment is continuous throughout the two years and is based on completion of a series of assignments in each unit. Qualification BTEC National Diploma in Popular Music. Progression Successful students may progress to employment in the music industry or onto a related Degree or HND. Related HNDs include Music Performance, Music Technology and HND Music and New Media Management. ...''
