'' This class is designed for system programmers, technical support personnel and application programmers who have a basic knowledge of Assembler Language programming. This course adds a deeper level of knowledge for the Assembler programmer working in the MVS environment. The focus is on more complex coding techniques including macro usage, 31-bit addressability, register and linkage stack usage, and reentrant coding techniques. The student will learn techniques for writing easily maintainable code, speeding problem resolution and boosting overall program reliability. Classroom lab exercises are used to reinforce lecture material. Course Outline Addressability I/O - Locate Mode Intermodule Communication Extended Addressing Linkage Stacks Virtual Storage Management Debugging Concepts Program Sharing Recovery Processing Dataspaces By the end of the course, you will be able to... Code complete assembler programs with effective addressability considerations Use appropriate macros for acquiring additional virtual storage Describe and use locate mode I/O for sequential files Describe the difference between the Save Area and the Linkage Stack Control the addressing mode and residency mode of a program module Perform effective abend dump analysis for commonly seen program interrupt codes Code a reentrant program, allowing for concurrent use by several tasks Code a recovery routine to protect a programs resources in the case of an abend Create and use a dataspace to provide an extension of a programs virtual storage Prerequisites Students need experience with the TSO/ISPF editor, a working knowledge of JCL, and System/390 Assembler language for this course.
