ESSAY WRITING.
For the TOEFL exam, students may be asked to write an essay. Here, some basic information regarding essay writing:
Remember that an essay is multi-paragraphed writing. An essay has three main parts: an Introduction, a Body and a Conclusion. The Introduction sets up the paper and concludes with a very clear, specific thesis statement. A strong Introduction will set the tone for the rest of the paper. A good thesis should identify the main sections/ideas in the paper; it acts as a sort of "mini-outline". The Body should have a number of paragraphs covering the main points. Remember that a paragraph has the same basic construction as an essay: an Introduction (topic sentence that tells the reader what you will be discussing in that paragraph), a Body, and a Conclusion. It is very rare for a paragraph to have fewer than five or six sentences. This is where you will include your examples, arguments, objections, etc. The Conclusion should not be cut short, either in terms of length or content. This is what the reader will read last and, statistics show, what the reader will remember most. Therefore, you will want to finish with a strong paragraph. ...''
