'' Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP) is a server-side scripting environment
that you can use to create interactive Web pages and build powerful Web applications. When the server receives a request for an ASP file, it processes
server-side scripts contained in the file to build the Web page that is sent to
the browser. In addition to server-side scripts, ASP files can contain HTML
(including related client-side scripts) as well as calls to COM components that
perform a variety of tasks, such as connecting to a database or processing
business logic.
SALIENT FEATURES
ASP Embedded To HTML : Previously, to process user input on the Web
server you would have had to learn a language such as Perl or C to build
a conventional Common Gateway Interface (CGI) application. With ASP,
however, you can collect HTML form information and pass it to a database
using simple server-side scripts embedded directly in your HTML documents.
Language-neutral : If you are skilled at a scripting language such as
VBScript, JScript, or PERL, you already know how to use Active Server
Pages
ASP & COM : User can develop his own COM components and port those components within the ASP program code. This can be well implemented
for complex web applications.
