Course Description:

'' This course is designed to introduce language teachers from varied backgrounds to modern principles of ’Language Learning Theory and Practice’.
We do not of course have all the answers to the question of how people learn languages, but we are able to present some useful ideas about what is likely to work and what is not.

This programme will take you through some theoretical ideas in a balanced way so that you can arrive at your own conclusions. Then we’ll look at how theory can be activated in the classroom, enabling teachers to create a positive learning environment.
Throughout the course there will be opportunities to examine a variety of practical ideas for classroom practice.

Typical syllabus:

�recent research into First and Second Language Acquisition
�the relationship between learning and teaching
�methodologies: from Behaviourism to Connectionism
â€?’Good Language Learners’ and what we can learn from them
�how to be a more Affective and Effective teacher
�classrooms and how they really work

The course will be a combination of workshops, seminars and active participation. This will enable you to focus on the topic material while at the same time, of course, refreshing your own English language skills!
