'' Language allows us to borrow authority from words. It is a powerful tool and with the right choices, it can change minds and influence decisions. By understanding how language shapes situation, we can have a greater control of the situation. Language should be viewed not only as a means of communication but also as a source of power through which individuals can pursue toinfluence according to their knowledge and competence.

This two-day seminar has been specially designed for executives to enhance their power of influence through the use of Empowered Language for business purposes. It shows how linguistic interaction changes minds with word choices, and demonstrates the use of Empowered Language in different professional communication settings. It highlights "Tools of Empowerment", like making and choosing nouns, verbs, adverbs & adjectives to work for us in both speech and writing. It provides an insight into Language Conventions, Use of Commas and Vocabulary Reinforcement that can power-up the effectiveness of business correspondence, reports, memos and oral presentations.

Speaker - DR. ARLENE BASTION (BA DipEd MEd EdD)
Dr Bastion holds a Doctorate from the University of British Columbia and a Masters Degree from University of Malaya. She has lectured and taught programmes in the areas of Communication Skills, Technical Report Writing and Professional Ethics as Assistant Professor with leading university and educational establishments. Her previous work experience and contacts had also enabled her to understand the modes, techniques and issues of communication in different work settings. Dr Bastion has developed a variety of executives development programmes in "Persuasive Writing", "Negotiation Skills" and "Interpersonal Relationships". Her other research and teaching interests also include Moral Philosophy, Ethics, Education and Critical Thinking.
