'' This four-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to successfully deploy Windows Vista business desktops throughout their organization. Students are introduced to the deployment life cycle, which consists of planning for the deployment, building and customizing the deployment method, and then implementing the actual deployment. Students are introduced to the tools and guidance to be used throughout various stages of the deployment life cycle.
Audience
This course is intended for IT Professionals, Desktop Configuration Administrators, and technical decision makers with the skills to successfully plan and deploy desktop operating systems, provision desktop computers, and deploy service packs and updates to computer systems. The intended audience is also involved in setting the strategic direction for the desktop operating system and applications.
At Course Completion
After completing this course, students will be able to: Describe the challenges, techniques, and processes that take place throughout the Windows Vista desktop deployment life-cycle. Analyze, evaluate, and deploy solutions to address application compatibility issues. Capture and restore user state information during a workstation deployment. Customize and create a computer image based upon Windows Vista. Deploy a Windows Vista image using Lite Touch or Zero Touch. Secure a Windows Vista desktop by using Windows Vista technology.
Prerequisites Before attending this course, students must have: Experience deploying, managing, and supporting Windows client systems. Familiarity with standard client and application deployment methods such as Group Policy, disk imaging, and Systems Management Server (SMS). Familiarity with the Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) Solution Accelerator. Important: This learning product will be most useful to people who are already working in the job role of a Desktop Configuration Administrator and who intend to use their new skills and knowledge on the job immediately after training.

Module 1: Preparing to Deploy Windows Vista Business Desktops In this module, students are provided guidelines for an effective desktop deployment. Students are also introduced to tools and technologies used in the desktop deployment life cycle. Finally, students are introduced to the process and team guidance provided by the Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment 2007.

After completing this module, students will be able to: Provide guidelines and considerations for an effective and efficient Windows Vista business desktop deployment. Describe the tools and technologies used throughout the desktop deployment lifecycle. Use the Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment 2007 as a resource for deploying Windows Vista business desktops.
Module 2: Application Compatibility Remediation In this module, students learn how to address common application compatibility issues faced during a typical operating system deployment. Students also learn how to use the Application Compatibility Toolkit to help evaluate and address application compatibility issues.

After completing this module, students will be able to: Describe the process used to resolve common application compatibility issues during an operating system deployment. Assess and analyze application compatibility using the Application Compatibility Toolkit.
Module 3: User State Migration In this module students learn about user state migration and how the User State Migration Tool can be used for various migration scenarios.

Lab: Migrating User Information by Using the User State Migration Tool Students will go into much detail customizing the USMT (user state migration tool) migration process. Taking the existing information and storing it for future customization.
After completing this module, students will be able to: Describe the tools and configuration process for performing a user state migration task. Migrate user and computer settings using the User State Migration Tool. Customize the USMT xml file. (expand a little more) This will include labs that are more prescriptive showing how to define custom settings for specific components.
Module 4: Computer Imaging Technologies for Windows Vista In this module, students learn specific imaging technologies to be used to assist in the deployment of Windows Vista.

BDD Workbench: Detail explanation and coverage of the BDD workbench will be provided to the students including: Viewing in detail the components in the workbench Learning the ins and outs of the help utilities.
IMAGE X: Students will go into detail on the design and usage of the imageX tool Including advanced switches and the image creation as well as the how tos of tool modification. process.
Systems Image Manager: This discussion will delve into the systems image manager and how it is used to customize the images students created with the image X tool. Show how to unlock the image and custom specific areas
WAIK: Detail description of the WAIK, (Windows Automation Installation Kit) including the components it contains and its functions. Working with advanced tools Created Templates Advanced utilities
WDS: This topic will cover how WDS (Windows Deployment System) compares to Remote Installation Services. Students will learn how it operates and what improvements have been made from the previous versions (RIS).
WIN PE: Expand coverage on customizing the WIN PE (Boot Image). Students will create a custom WIN PE image that allows for system scan of hardware, and Network. There will expanded coverage on the command-line utilities.
Sysprep: Students will engage in a detailed coverage of the Sysprep and its functionality when used to create images with the BDD tools.
Lab: Customizing and Imaging a Windows Vista Business Desktop After completing this module, students will be able to: Describe the architecture of the Windows Vista imaging system. Determine which tools are required to implement a Windows Vista imaging system.
Module 5: Deploying Vista by Using Lite Touch and Zero Touch In this module, students learn how to use the Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment 2007 to deploy a Windows Vista image using a Lite Touch or Zero Touch methodology.
