Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' This is an intermediate course for database administrators, application developers, and consultants who plan, implement, or maintain DB2 UDB partitioned databases. This course is appropriate for students requiring knowledge of DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) in a Data Partitioning Feature (DPF) environment.

Skills Taught

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Describe the steps to install and customize DB2 UDB in a partitioned environment
Use Graphical User Interface (GUI) tools to administer the database
Create objects and load data on DB2 UDB
Implement DB2 UDB security
Define a DB2 UDB partitioned recovery strategy and perform the tasks necessary to support the strategy
Describe the application development process with respect to DB2 UDB considerations
Identify how a database should be designed to take advantage of the parallel architecture
Use DB2 UDB utilities to manage data and maintain your database

Course outline

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Components and concepts

describe the kinds of business applications that use parallel databases
describe the basic architecture of each of the hardware platforms on which parallel database may run
define the strengths of DB2 UDB partitioned architecture
identify the key features that set DB2 UDB in a partitioned environment apart from other members of the DB2 family
Getting started with the DB2 UDB GUIs

describe the purpose of DB2 UDB Administration Server (DAS)
list the GUI tools in DB2 UDB
explore the various ways to access the GUI tools
use different methods to execute a command or statement in DB2 UDB
create database objects using the GUI tools
Installation

identify the steps to install and customize DB2 UDB in a partitioned environment
use db2_all and rah commands
Creating databases

describe DB2 UDB data partitioning
create a database in a DB2 UDB partitioned environment
access and update the database manager configuration file and the database configuration file
access and update the system database directory and the local database directory
use tools to issue commands and SQL statements
Partitioning and database partition groups

identify considerations when choosing a partitioning key
describe join strategies in partitioned databases
identify the syntax for creating database partition groups
Data placement on the partitions

identify how table spaces may be defined to store different types of data
describe the two types of table space management
identify when each type of table space management should be used
create System Managed Storage (SMS) table spaces
create Data Managed Storage (DMS) table spaces
use SQL functions specific to the partitioned environment
identify catalog views that contain information about your partitioned environment
Create objects

describe database physical directories and files
create database objects: tables, indexes, views, and aliases
alter tables and add check constraints, triggers, and referential integrity
describe Large Objects (LOB)
Moving data

identify the different methods for inputting data, including using import, buffered inserts and the LOAD utility
describe the process of partitioning and loading
identify how partitioned database options on the load command can be used to automate the partitioning and load process
identify the command to export a database table to a file
Application alternatives

prepare applications that access DB2 data for execution
use PRECOMPILE and BIND options that are appropriate for specific application requirements
describe the application alternatives available to access DB2 data or request other DB2 functions
list the benefits and possible disadvantages of the various interfaces
Recovery

describe high availability and mirroring options for processor and disk backup
state the three types of recovery support
explain the principles DB2 uses for its recovery/restart functions
describe the capabilities and functional requirements of DB2 logging
use the utilities to back up and recover user data and DB2’s catalog
recover data to a prior point in time
state general considerations regarding disaster recovery
prepare and implement standard recovery procedures for data recovery
Scaling the database

identify how your configuration can be scaled
differentiate between the three options on the REDISTRIBUTE command
troubleshoot problems that may occur during redistribution
Performance and application concepts

list the reasons for REBIND of application programs and execute this command
define the concept of single dimensional clustering, and determine the proper cluster sequence, if any, for DB2 tables
use RUNSTATS, REORGCHK, and REORG to enhance application performance
describe the function of EXPLAIN and use this facility to assist basic analysis
Security

use DB2 access control mechanisms to implement security within the database
use group Identification Data (ID) to create a control hierarchy
describe privileges within a database
describe privileges required for binding and executing a package
describe the difference between explicit privileges and implicit privileges
describe the different DB2 authorization levels
Monitoring and problem determination

use the DB2 UDB error logs
identify the different monitor types
