'' This course is suitable for school leavers with good GCSE grades as well as mature learners returning to study. It provides an appropriate foundation for further study of accounting or related subjects in higher education..
Entry Requirements: The minimum entry requirement is 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C in appropriate subjects. You must have GCSE Maths at grade C or higher, and GCSE English is preferable, due to the quantity of written work especially at A2. You will need to fill in an application form and attend an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. Students who have passed AS Levels elsewhere are welcome to continue their course at West Thames, though we would need to establish that your AS pass is compatible with the syllabus we offer at A2. About the course The course consists of 6 units, 3 at AS Level and 3 at A2. AS Units (AQA 5121) include: ACC1 - The accounting information system: ledgers and subsidiary books, double entry, trial balance, profit and loss accounts, balance sheets bank reconciliation, control accounts, VAT and computing. ACC3 - Financial accounting - determination of income: trading and profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and adjustments, fixed asset disposal, accounting concepts, stock valuation, manufacturing accounts, limited company accounts. ACC4 - Introduction to management accounting: performance evaluation, costs and budgeting, break even analysis, social accounting. A2 Units AQA 6121 include: ACC5 - Further aspects of financial accounting (synoptic paper): final accounts, partnership accounts, incomplete records, accounting for non profit making organisations, valuation of stock. ACC6 - Published accounts of limited companies: final accounts of limited companies, accounting standards, published accounts of limited companies, rights issues and bonus issues, accounting ratios, cash-flow statements. ACC7 - Accounting for management and decision making: classification of costs, absorption costing, marginal costing, standard costing, investment appraisal.

How will I be assessed? Each unit is assessed through written examination. Each AS Level examination is 1 hour long. Each A2 examination is 1.5 hours long.
Where next? A Levels are the main nationally recognised qualification for entrance to a degree programme at university. Most of our A Level students apply to and are offered a place at university.
