Course Description:
'' A Level Chemistry is an advanced science course which looks closely at the applications of chemistry and of how advances in information technology and instrumentation have been employed. Chemistry combines well with the other sciences, and is a key subject for many degree courses in science. It is essential for medicine, veterinary science and many others. The college has excellent modern facilities to teach this science subject. Non EU, international students studying on this course can receive free English language tuition, including preparation for IELTS.
Who Is This Course For? This course is suitable for school leavers as well as those returning to study after a break.
Entry Requirements: The minimum entry requirement is 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C in appropriate subjects including English, though exceptions may be made for mature students. You will need to fill in an application form and attend an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. Students who have passed AS Levels elsewhere are welcome to continue their course at West Thames, though we would need to establish that your AS pass is compatible with the syllabus we offer at A2. About the course Drama involves practical work in a wide variety of theatre genres. You will study set play texts, make theatre visits, and explore the theories and work of theatre practitioners. The course includes review writing, devising and writing pieces of theatre, performing, improvisation and acting. You will also be involved in putting on a major production. AS Units (Edexcel) include Unit 1 - Exploration of drama and theatre; Unit 2 - Text in performance I; Unit 3 - Text in context I. A2 Units (Edexcel) include Unit 4 - Devised piece of theatre; Unit 5 - Text in performance II; and Unit 6 - Text in context II.
Additional Opportunities There is the possibility of trips and visits relevant to your study.
How will I be assessed? Units are assessed as follows - Unit 1: Coursework, internally assessed (15% of total grade); Unit 2: Practical exam, externally assessed (20% of total grade); Unit 3: Written exam, 2 hours (15% of total grade); Unit 4: Coursework, internally assessed, external moderation (20% of total grade); Unit 5: Practical exam, externally assessed (15% of total grade); Unit 6: Written exam, 2½ hours (15% of total grade).
Where next? A Levels are the main nationally recognised qualification for entrance to a degree programme at university. Most of our A Level students apply to and are offered a place at university.
