Training Course:National Diploma in Animation and Games DesignSchool/Trainer:West Thames College London, United Kingdom
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' The National Diploma in Animation and Games Design leads to a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design. The course was launched in 2007 in response to a growing interest in both games design and animation digital, cgi or traditional stop-motion. It is an advanced (Level 3) course and is equivalent to 3 A Levels. It is intended that on completing the course, students will progress to university to develop their expertise in preparation for a career in the industry. In the first year all the spaces on the course were filled, so we advise you to apply early.
Who Is This Course For? students who have an interest in either games design or animation (or both!).
Entry Requirements: You should usually have a merit or distinction in a relevant subject at Level 2, or 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C. We will consider applications with a pass. You will need to fill in an application form and attend an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. You will need to bring a portfolio of your work when you come to college for your interview. If you have any questions about whether this course is right for you, please ask Admissions for advice
About the course The course will give you hands-on experience in storyboarding, stop motion techniques, games engine designing, programming and 3D modelling. We believe that students need to be engaged in every aspect of this subject and foster their imaginative skills in order to feed back to the design work that they do and we also want the course to be fun! The course is taught by specialist animation and games designer lecturers. You will study 2D and 3D visual study, storyboarding, sequential drawing, film and video, digital photography, computer applications, 2D and stop motion animation, and critical thinking relevant to the industry. In the second year you will work on your own projects developing games elements and animated sequences: animation, web design, interactive art, 3D environment and character creation, and a final major project. This flexible approach builds a solid foundation for further study or employment, while enabling you to develop a specialised programme of study according to your own interests. You will use the college’s extensive range of specialised equipment, and you will have a personal tutor who will guide and support you throughout your course. In the second year you will receive guidance for applications to university..
Additional Opportunities We use the resources of London with visits to industry shows, theatre, films and museums.
How will I be assessed? The course is continuously assessed throughout the two years. In the final term of the course a final major project is assessed, examined and assessed externally.
Where next? When you complete the course you may choose to go on to the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Higher National Diploma, or a degree programme at university, or into employment.
