Course Description:
'' Entry to ICT is a 1-year full-time course which is flexible and individually designed to ensure that you can progress to further vocational or academic courses or find employment. You will have the opportunity to develop your educational skills, including English language skills, personal and life skills.
Who Is This Course For? This course is designed for young people with no formal qualifications or who have left school with GCSE grades E or below, and 16-19 year olds who have recently arrived in the UK from abroad, including asylum seekers and refugees. It will benefit students who may require an additional level of support to reach their potential. The programme is also suitable for young people with learning difficulties where special provision will be made to support the student according to their individual needs.
Entry Requirements: There are no formal entry requirements but enrolment is subject to an interview. You will need to fill in an application form, complete an initial assessment, and attend an interview which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. About the course You will explore the following units: health and safety, improving your learning, introduction to skills for work, introduction to word processing, introduction to internet and email, introduction to handling data, and setting up an enterprise activity. The programme allows you to develop a solid grounding in English/communication, numeracy, and IT through the vocational pathway of ICT. You will have a personal tutor to guide and support you through the course. Weekly tutorials allow you and your tutor to develop individual learning plans and personal student files to develop responsibility for your own learning. You will learn through a variety of activities in the class and workshops. Preparation for the workplace and career planning play an active part in progression routes. Regular reports on progress are provided to parents/guardians. There is special provision for students with learning difficulties.
Additional Opportunities You will go on trips to local places of interest and workplaces throughout the year. You may have the opportunity for a one-week work placement during the year.
How will I be assessed? You will work toward the BTEC Entry Level Certificate in Skills for Working Life at Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3 by building a portfolio of work throughout the year. You will also gain qualifications in English/communication and numeracy.
Where next? When you are ready you can go onto higher vocational and academic qualifications at the college, such as the Diploma in Digital Applications Level 1 or the Level 1 e-Quals Certificate for IT Users, or move directly into employment if you wish.
