'' The First Diploma in Manufacturing is an introductory course focusing on particular aspects of employment in engineering. The course leads to a BTEC qualification. It is taught in our engineering workshops in Isleworth.
Who Is This Course For? Students who wish to pursue a career in engineering, including those who want to go on to advanced courses in engineering.
Entry Requirements: 2 or more GCSEs at grade D including English, maths, and science, or a foundation qualification or NVQ Level 1. You will need to fill in an application form and attend an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. About the course You will study working practices in engineering, using and interpreting engineering information, applied electrical and mechanical science for technicians, mathematics for engineering technicians, using computer aided drawing techniques in engineering, using secondary machining techniques, programming CNC machines, and application of welding processes. You will extend your knowledge of engineering materials, design and processes, graphical communication, science and maths, and engineering in society and the environment. You can study electrical and electronic principles and engineering mathematics, and work on design projects with local industry. You will have a personal tutor who can give you advice on any problems you have during your course, whether academic or personal. You will also have access to the colleges full range of support services.
Additional Opportunities Industrial visits will give you a chance to see the types of work engineers do and think about what routes to an engineering career that you might be interested in through education or employment.
How will I be assessed? Assessment will be based on your portfolio.
Where next? You can progress to the National Certificate or National Diploma in Engineering, or start work and take an NVQ.
