'' The Higher National Diploma in Specialist Makeup is an advanced training programme that provides progression from foundation courses. Who Is This Course For?
This course is for students who wish to develop awareness of the media industry and build up the technical skills required to work as a specialist hair and makeup artist.
Entry Requirements:
You will need to have an A Level, National Diploma or the Foundation Diploma in relevant subjects or an equivalent qualification in hair, makeup, and/or art. Mature students with a suitable background will also be considered. Application is through UCAS (Institution Code: W65. Course Code: 254W. Short Form of Course HND/SM). When your application has been received, we will contact you to arrange a time for an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course.
About the course
This course will allow you to develop specialist hair and makeup skills while building a professional portfolio. It is a vocational study programme with an emphasis on practical learning in hair and makeup. There will be supporting studies in art, contextual studies, IT and professional studies. The course focuses on working within the film and television industry, but will include aspects of fashion and theatre. Your studies will cover period hairstyling, makeup and wig dressing; editorial hair and makeup styling; film and television hair and makeup; prosthetic applications; body painting; photographic styling; visual studies; contextual studies; IT and professional studies. Your tutors have a wealth of industry experience, which will give you an invaluable insight into the profession..
Additional Opportunities
Work experience forms an important part of the course and this will be built into the course schedule. During the academic year you will visit museums, galleries and theatres, and in Term 2 there will be an optional visit to a cultural city abroad.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous throughout the academic year and is in the form of photographic work, log books and research. Successful students will be awarded the BTEC HND in Performing Arts (Makeup).
