Course Description:
'' You will study a wide variety of information about essential oils and their practical applications and learn about the physical, psychological and aesthetic benefits of the oils. All tutors are professional practitioners experienced in aromatherapy, which ensures that they are well equipped to meet and cater for students�individual needs and requirements. You will study the origins and history of aromatherapy, frequency and duration of treatment, basic biochemistry, volatility and odour intensity, safety and contra-indications, integral biology, the properties of carrier oils, the effect of essential oils on the body systems, professional ethics, holistic aromatherapy treatment (effective whole body treatment to suit individual requirements of the client), and the selection and blending of over 40 essential oils. In addition to the course fee, exam fee and salon charge (if applicable), you will need to purchase a beauty uniform and shoes (£60 approx) if you do not already have them, textbooks (£14 approx for compulsory textbook plus £54 for optional textbooks), and essential oils to use at home. Please see your tutor at the start of the course for oils to purchase and recommended suppliers.

How will I be assessed?
This is done through case studies, written tests, and continuous practical assessment, plus external, practical and theoretical examinations. Upon completion of the course there is an external examination, which consists of two parts: 1) Practical: You will be required to perform a complete massage treatment, including consultation and blending of selected oils, and case studies for 10 clients x 4 treatments each to be monitored and marked by your personal tutor. 2) Theory: A 1-hour multiple choice theory examination paper.

You can work in the beauty or complementary therapy industries, or take further courses in on-site massage, lymphatic drainage, sports massage, or other courses at the college.
