'' The National Certificate in Care is equivalent to 2 A Levels, which means that when you have finished the course you can choose either to get a job straight away or go into higher education first. If you do not achieve the diploma you can gain the certificate, as long as you pass the relevant units
Who Is This Course For? School leavers or adults who wish to go into a career in nursing, social work, residential care management, housing or the probation service.
Entry Requirements: You should have 4 or more GCSEs at grades A*-C or above including English, or an Intermediate GNVQ or First Diploma in Health and Social Care or Care at merit grade and above. Should you wish to use this qualification to do nursing or other health-related professional studies, you should have English, maths and double science at grade C or above. Applicants with appropriate work experience may also be considered, following a formal assessment to determine if they can meet the demands of the course. You will need to attend an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. About the course You will study the following 7 core units: equality, diversity and rights, communication and supportive skills, research, applying sociology, vocational practice (counts as 2 units), protecting self and others, and applying psychology. You will also choose 4 specialist units from the following, which enable you to study particular areas in depth: personal and professional development, care services, planning for care, health promotion, practical caring skills, coping with change, care organisations, project, care environments, developing individual interests, complementary therapies, lifespan development, issues for people who use care services, working with groups, welfare rights, ethics and values, and technology in health and care services.
Additional Opportunities There is the possibility of trips and visits relevant to your study.
How will I be assessed? Most units are assessed by assignments and placement reports.
