'' Counselling Skills: Working with Young People is a part-time course which runs for a full academic year, and is validated by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). It is helpful for anyone working with young people who wishes to develop new counselling skills.

Who Is This Course For?
People who use or wish to use counselling skills in their work, and who want to work towards a full qualification in counselling young people. It is also suitable for people who may wish to enhance skills they use in their workplace.

Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements, but you need to be aware of the assessment element of the course. Those with no previous counselling experience would benefit from our Introduction to Counselling course prior to studying at intermediate level. You will need to fill in an application form and attend an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. About the course
You will learn to use counselling skills ethically and safely, establish and sustain boundaries, apply understanding of diversity issues to helping interactions, manage an active listening space, use self-awareness in the helping role, use a range of counselling skills, and use self-reflection to facilitate counselling skills.

There are no trips or visits on this course.

How will I be assessed?
You will build a portfolio throughout the course. Assessment consists of ongoing learning review, observation and peer feedback designed to assess your understanding of the professional framework.

Where next?
The counselling skills you have developed through this course will be helpful for working with young people. The course also serves as part-progression towards a qualification as a counsellor.
