Training Course:National Diploma in Media (Moving Image)School/Trainer:West Thames College London, United Kingdom
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Theory forms approximately 40% of the course and gives you the necessary insight that will underpin your practical work, as well as outlining the structures of the media industry. The course is usually timetabled over three days. You will be given opportunities to develop your skills and creativity through practical hands-on experience using video and audio equipment. In addition you will study a range of subjects including understanding the media, sound on screen, interview and presentation techniques, shooting single-camera drama, and corporate video production. In the second year you will also work on a final major project. The course is dedicated to the development of a range of skills, the mastery of which will enhance both your higher education and employment opportunities. It is possible to take or retake GCSEs (especially in English which is vital), but this does require a great deal of commitment and time. Your practical work on the course is carried out on equipment including a 3-camera television studio, digital cameras and video editing equipment, digital sound recording and sequencing facilities, and a digital imaging suite.
Additional Opportunities There are occasional trips during the course to TV production bases (eg BBC TV Centre, Teddington Studios) and visits from media industry professionals.
How will I be assessed? The course is assignment rather than examination based and is continually assessed, culminating in a final major project. Your grades are recorded throughout the year and appear on your final diploma. Your progress is constantly monitored and any problems are dealt with as they happen, either during sessions or in tutorials. Individual action plans for students are arranged during tutorials which enable you to plan your studies more effectively. This continuous assessment will finally take you through to a job or higher education applications.
