Vehicle Construction and Routine Maintenance: types, components and safety features for light vehicle construction; statutory regulations relating to the routine maintenance of light vehicles. 4. Operating Principles of Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems: legal requirements, types and common faults for light vehicle wheels and tyres; principles, components, common faults and inspection techniques for light vehicle braking, steering and suspension systems. 5. Operating Principles of Engines: principles, components, and inspection techniques for light vehicle petrol and diesel engine mechanical, cooling, lubrication, fuel and ignition systems. 6. Operating Principles and Maintenance of Transmission Systems: principles, components, common faults and inspection techniques for light vehicle final drive, drive shafts, and manual transmission systems. 7. Operating Principles of Electrical and Electronic Systems: operating principles, components, routine maintenance, and principles of electricity for battery charging, engine starting, and auxiliary systems fitting to light vehicles.
