'' This course details the responsibilities of engineers and other technical professionals regarding legal and contract issues. It covers what you have to know to interpret, apply, and correctly document procedures in engineering projects. Among the issues discussed are regulatory requirements, codes, and standards involving safety and environmental concerns. Attendees will learn how to communicate the relevant standards for a particular project, how to be sure they are being properly enforced, and the steps to take to address violations. Business issues addressed include contracts, patents, copyrights, and trademark laws, and how to interpret and apply laws within the context of contract and project requirements to ensure that intellectual property is adequately protected. Other areas covered are U. S. and international codes, standards, and regulations; professional codes of ethics; and ethical and professional liability, including applying and enforcing standards in international engineering projects.
