'' Companies use projects to convert corporate strategy into the vital new products, services, and processes that they need for success. Thus, picking the right projects through which to implement corporate strategy is a critically important activity. Yet, selecting projects and allocating resources to them is often something that companies are weak at. They typically attempt too many projects with too few resources, don’t align projects with strategies, and neglect to balance risk and time horizon across projects.

Portfolio management is the discipline of managing projects together as a portfolio that meets corporate objectives. It optimizes development investment and resource allocation across multiple projects. This class looks at current techniques and best practices for managing project portfolios in high tech companies.
