'' Advertising as a means of persuasive communication, is one of the most visible forms of mass communication in our world. It plays a vital part in the functioning of most societies, and is one of the most prominent aspects of a society’s culture.

You can focus on Advertising within the Visual Communication Design major of the Bachelor of Design. This provides you with the knowledge and conceptual skills to launch your advertising career. Coached by practising advertising experts, your concept development/rationalisation and communication strategy skills will be developed and refined over the four-year programme. Emphasis is placed on creating intelligent solutions to communication issues, and on the opportunities that new media technologies are creating for innovative and effective advertising practice.

The first year of study provides a common grounding in design shared by all our degree students, with the following three years devoted to Visual Communication Design.

The Advertising design papers are strongly supported with contribution of knowledge and experience from prominent players in the local advertising industry. Graduates have gone on to become some of the most respected and influential people in the industry, both in New Zealand and overseas.

Our programme enables placement within advertising agencies primarily as art directors or copywriters but includes skills for account service and strategic planning. As a graduate you will have the skills to enter many diverse industries outside of main stream advertising.

Your skill base can give entry into the Direct Marketing arena as well as the wider marketing fields including fashion plus film and design production to name a few.
