Training Course:Diploma of Creative AdvertisingSchool/Trainer:Media Design School Auckland, New Zealand
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Since 2000 Axis Adschool has been successfully grooming students for the intensely challenging but creatively satisfying and financially rewarding world of creative advertising. It has enjoyed unparalleled and sustained success in both NZ and global student awards, and 69% of graduates have landed full-time jobs as either art directors or copywriters in a wide variety of advertising agencies, both at home and overseas. As well as developing brilliantly effective and well-known ad campaigns, many have also excelled in the competitive world of creative advertising awards, winning the highest possible accolades at both local and international levels. AXIS Adschool is recognised as being one of the foremost creative advertising schools in the world.
One of its strongest assets is its ties to the ad industry and the involvement with its senior creative people, which means it operates very closely to ‘real worldstandards. So close that they’ve made ads for us, we’ve appeared in their ads, and we’ve even made ads for them. We have many people coming in all the time, including guest speakers, Industry panellists, mentors etc.
But the course’s greatest strength is its focus on ideas. Big ideas. Fresh ideas. Ideas that help people sell their products and services. It is rigorous, the standards are high, and success depends on a lot of very hard work. However it is also a lot of fun and is highly rated by those ‘who sail on herwho have enjoyed its innovative teaching and learning methods. A year in the life of AXIS can be seen through this movie.
In many respects, AXIS Adschool students have helped change the shape and complexion of New Zealand Advertising, making it younger, fresher, more home-grown and better adapted to a global advertising industry facing many new challenges in the rapidly expanding world of digital media. Places are limited, so this sought after qualification is aimed at determined people who think they are creative, curious, can think differently and above all are doggedly obsessed with generating lots of great ideas. How to apply
How the course works: Officially, the course runs for 36 weeks, five days per week, 9-5, with ample self-directed time within an organic timetable. Students will naturally want to work much more than this. Assessment is confined to one major portfolio of ads at course end.
The underlying teaching and learning methodology is rooted to an experiential/problem-based model, where much emphasis is placed upon simulating the reality of the advertising world. ’Learning is doing and doing is learningis the philosophy that drives the course.
This is why our students spend most of the course answering briefs- real ones from clients and agencies, as well as briefs generated by the teaching team. This is also why they spend time creating entries for the several award competitions that the course is involved with. And it’s why increasingly we are encouraging the hands-on making of ads using all the digital facilities the Media Design School offer- whether its photography, Maccing things up, making cool videos , producing blogs and publishing videos online - whatever the project demands.
We’ve even produced real TV ads that have run and won awards all around the world. Students are also encouraged to work with other courses at the Media Design School - especially Graphic Design and Digital Media, because advertising is a very collaborative business- no one works in a vacuum. However, the course does have structure and discipline, and it does teach the necessary classic skills of ideation, copywriting and art direction- it’s just that all this is done in the context of projects, activities and briefs. ...''
