'' The Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL) programme is primarily designed to reinforce and extend the professional competence of secondary school teachers of English in Nigeria. A student admitted to the programme will normally possess a first degree in English as a major subject (i.e. Ether an Honours degree in English or a Combined degree with English as one of the two main subjects) and with a specialization in either Language or Literature. The programme chiefly offers the student a more thorough grounding in ways of teaching English effectively, or both.
