'' You will learn how to setup and install an IBM/AIX system. You will learn about system administration. and optimization.

· Identify the features of AIX and the hardware.

· Identify the functions of the AIX system administrator.

· Identify the hardware requirements for the installation of AIX.

· Identify types of files on AIX.

· Identify the commands used to manage groups with WSM and SMIT.

· Identify the commands used to manage groups with the command-line interface (CLI).

· Identify the commands used in the error-logging process.

· Identify the reasons for continuous AIX performance monitoring.

· Identify CLI commands that are available for performance monitoring.

To provide basic knowledge in administering an AIX box

The audience would typically be using Unix as an operating system for multiple tasks. Examples of such tasks would be managing files, printing, running applications, programming, database administration etc.

Students must have at least one year of system administration experience on Linux, Tru64, Solaris, or another UNIX platform.



Unit 1: Installation and Startup

Identify the features of AIX and hardware.
Identify the functions of the AIX system administrator.
Identify the hardware requirements for the installation of AIX 4.3.
Identify the procedure for installing AIX.
Identify the post-installation procedures for AIX. Identify the steps of the boot process of an IX System.
Identify the modes of operation of an RS/6000 system. Identify the startup events of an AIX system.
Shut down an AIX system.
Identify the commands related to creating a tape boot image
Identify the features of Web-based System Manager (WSM).
Identify the features of System Management Interface Tool (SMIT).
· Manage additional software installations with WSM.
Identify the AIX Help options.

Unit 2: System Administration

Manage users with WSM and SMIT.
Manage users with the command-line interface (CLI).
Identify types of files on AIX.
Identify the commands used to manage groups with WSM and SMIT.
Identify the commands used to manage groups with the command-line interface (CLI).
Identify the features of the Logical Volume Manager (LVM).
Identify the types of AIX file systems.
Identify the AIX CLI commands that can be used to manage a file system.
Identify the features of the SMIT and WSM file system managers.
