'' The Department of Statistics is among the four pioneer science departments established in 1976, when Jamia Islamia was upgraded to The Islamia University of Bahawalpur under the Punjab Assembly Act 1975. It started with 4 faculty members and a class of 50 students for M.Sc. Programme. Since then it has developed into a Department equipped with three modern Computer Laboratories, a library and classrooms with up to date teaching gadgetry.
The Department offers graduate programme leading to M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees in Statistics. The specializations offered are Probability Distributions Theory, Operational Research and Design of Experiments. With a student population of around 200, the Department at present is housed in the Faculty of Sciences at Baghdad-ul-jadeed Campus.
The members of the teaching faculty are actively involved in research activities. Department publishes a number of research papers every year 10 Ph.D scholars including 7 indigenous scholars are registered in the department in the field of Bio Statistics.
