Non-fiction production forms the body of practical work undertaken in the first year with multiple fiction production exercises are undertaken to prepare the students for second year study.
One of the driving forces of mass media in all its forms is advertising. By focussing on television commercial production and music video production, the second year of study broadens the studentsproduction skills with analysis of the ‘client perspective At this stage of learning, students are encouraged to produce a music video project by collaborating with JMC Academy students from other departments, ensuring they gain a genuine understanding of the series of networks instrumental to the project’s success. Students then explore the modern media landscape including television series and serials, miniseries, feature films and web based modes of delivery. They are also required to run a live outside broadcast for the annual JMC Academy Student Awards Showcase.
The second year includes two subjects on screenwriting providing students with the confidence and skill to generate longer form scripts for production in the third year of study.
In their final year, students are able to engage in pre-production development, casting and production design, production, delivery, marketing a distribution. The year long approach to this project ensures students are able to engage in genuine implementation of industry processes which can be difficult to achieve in one semester.
