'' Voice Over IP. This course explains the basic concepts of VoIP technology. In order for the reader to understand each of the technologies surrounding packet voice, it is important to begin with a base understanding of how the current telephony system works today. The course explains in detail how the modern telephone system works. The course also contains technical details on each component of Voice over IP, and explains how they work together to create integrated voice/data networks.
Objectives Understand the basics of PSTN services and IP signaling protocols, including SS7
Learn how VoIP can run the same applications as the existing telephony system, but in a more cost-efficient and scalable manner
Delve into such VoIP topics as jitter, latency, packet loss, codecs, quality of service tools, and mean opinion scores
