'' The automotive industry is growing in Western Australia’s northern metropolitan corridor. So much so, that trades based training to fill the skill shortage in this area has become a priority. The automotive industry is also experiencing a state of change. Highly skilled graduates trained in new technology and with an understanding of current industry trends, are therefore in high demand.
The industry sits at the cusp of a big shift in operations. Environmental factors are currently influencing the industry’s future direction and it must adapt to influences such as environmental concern, the shortage of oil and the development of new technologies such as Hybrid and Fuel-Cell.
The automotive industry is large, encompassing light vehicle, heavy vehicle, plant mechanics, marine mechanics, small engine mechanics, motor bike mechanics, aviation, auto-electrical and specialised trades. Those who like to tinker, work with motors or are computer minded and interested in a high tech industry environment, are attracted to studying Automotive.
Automotive graduates will be on a pathway to gaining trade qualifications in an industry which offers many opportunities, diverse roles and stable employment. Almost all workshops annually employ apprentices. Apprentices are usually on trial at the end of the year for commencement of apprenticeship in the new year �which coincides with TAFE training.
