Course Description:

'' This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge required to work in the building and construction industry. You will learn a broad range of skills to help you decide which area of building and construction you wish to follow. You will learn skills in bricklaying/block laying, carpentry and joinery, and painting and decorating. As part of this qualification you will undertake a supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.

Be part of the great cover-up! Ugly walls and ceiling cavities, that is. Use this qualification to get your apprenticeship in wall and ceiling lining. You’ll learn skills in reading plans, taking measurements, preparing surfaces, installation application and finishing of plasterboard, fibre cement sheeting, pre-cast fibrous plaster sheets and mouldings, how to erect partitions and install suspended ceiling systems, workplace safety and more.

Wall and ceiling liners make, apply and fix the internal linings of commercial and domestic buildings.

A wall & ceiling liner may perform the following tasks:
- measure room walls, work out plasterboard layout and install insulation and moisture barriers
- measure and mark cutting lines on plasterboard
- cut plasterboard and lift and position panels to nail, screw or secure them with glue to walls and ceilings, or to wooden strips called battens
- prepare corner beading panel mouldings, ceiling centres and other plaster fittings
- cover joins and nail holes with wet plaster or sealing compounds and smooth them using wet brushes and sand paper
- install fire-rated wall barriers
- spray fibrous materials over surfaces to be covered
- install acoustic walls and treatments
- make fibrous plaster moulds in factories.

Wall & ceiling liners usually work in dusty conditions. They may have contact with the public.

Wall & ceiling liners may specialise as:
- fixers who install plasterboard sheets and cornices in buildings
- sheet hands who make fibrous enrichments
- modellers hands who make plaster moulds.
