The qualification incorporates both manual and computer aided drafting Units Of Competency. It takes the student through structural, mechanical, pipe and development drafting skills giving the graduate the knowledge of drafting in the basic engineering field.

Engineering draftspersons provide technical support to professional engineers by producing drawings to design specifications for manufacture by an engineering workshop. They often have to liaise with engineers and workshop personnel. They can also be involved in a range of other duties that can include organising contracts, estimating and sales and marketing.
