'' This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to undertake administrative work in a tour business. You will learn about the tourism industry, safety in the workplace and working in a socially diverse environment. You will also learn skills in selling and customer service, effective communication and telephone techniques.
This qualification is designed to follow from the certificate II course offered at this college. Further research and study is taken into areas of interest, but includes learning the skills to:
Communicate well Offer high customer service Deal with conflict resolution Use information technology Guide tours Interpret Aboriginal history, information and culture Understand work in eco-tourism operations Sell and market tourism products Operate a bar Field trips are an integral part of the course, allowing students to experience tourism in our region. There are opportunities to attend tourism-based conferences and seminars on a range of topics. Assessments are usually project-based with students being able to select their own topics for study purposes.
Lecturers work together so that projects can truly reflect the tourism industry. Part of the assessment is to present a guided tour of an area of your own choice. Tours in the past have included such diverse topics as winery/vineyards, Albany Wind Farm, Whaleworld, Ocean Beach in Denmark, Lake seppings,The Brig Amity, The Forts and a virtual dive tour of the HMAS Perth. Another assessment involves presenting a Powerpoint to include local indigenous information. These have proved to be a really moving and rewarding part of the course and topics have included wildflowers from Fitzgerald National Park, Whaling in Albany, Gilberts Potoroo fight against extinction, the history of The Brig Amity, Torndirrup National Park and bush tucker plants. ...''
