Course Description:
'' This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to assist the teaching staff in schools, and provide care and supervision for children from kindergarten to Year 12. You will learn skills to manage challenging behaviours, and assist in classroom management. You can choose to learn advanced skills to enable working with others. As part of this qualification you will undertake a supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.
The Certificate IV in Teacher Assistant has been developed to provide students with competencies to enable them to work in a variety of settings within the school environment.
On completion of the qualification, the student will have developed a range of knowledge and skills including:
Decision making / problem solving
Understanding human development
Working with children with special needs
Social issues relevant to service provision
Health hygiene and safety issues in the work place
Contribute to the organisation and management of the classroom or centre
Work professionally and assist in the management of referred student(s) behaviour
The qualification involves both theoretical and practical training with on-the-job supervised field placement in both mainstream and education support schools. At the conclusion of your study you will be ready to work professionally in this rewarding and worthwhile field or to apply to enter university to complete an education degree.
